This year's chef judge:

Debbie Curtis began her culinary career as a child cooking with her mother in the kitchen. One of her favorite things to make as a child? Chocolate Chip Cookies. She won a chocolate cake contest in the Los Angeles County Fair in second grade. She got her first cooking job at a small cafe on campus while studying engineering in college and loved it. After graduating and working as an engineer, Debbie decided to return to the culinary industry and enrolled in a Cordon Blue culinary arts school where she was able to study all aspects of cooking professionally including baking. She graduated and worked in several different restaurants doing entrees, appetizers, salads, desserts, etc. She began to specialize in baked goods and got a job as a lead baker for a restaurant chain before become head pastry chef for a top-shelf catering company. She began to make custom chocolates for local wineries featuring their wines and soon moved to Alaska. Once in Alaska, Debbie worked as the bakery manager at the Safeway in Valdez for two years and then went on to work on the north slope as a baker for the next two years. Now fully self-employed, Debbie is able to concentrate on her catering and chocolate business, The Chocolate Gypsy, LLC, with her husband, David. Debbie still makes chocolate chip cookies and everyone loves them. What is Debbie's inspiration? She loves to bring happiness to people through food. Dave and Debbie look forward to the continued growth of their business and involvement in the interior of Alaska. They are thrilled to be a part of such a great community.
